We can read his Word for years and overlook little dynamite sticks of truth that can change our lives. One of those is in Colossians 1:29 that has become one of my favored truths that help me especially when I find myself spiritually or physically weary and still needing to engage the fight.

Ironically, the truth I refer to comes in the Greek word upon which “powerfully” is based is dunamei where we get the English word dynamite. It is the same word for "power" in Acts 1:8 where Christ says But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This is the power Paul relies on as he preaches the gospel, “presenting everyone fully mature in Christ” (v. 28). It is the power the follower of Christ must rely on in the ongoing work of Christ in their lives as well as the corporate body of believers. We cannot even come close to doing this on our own, we must absolutely trust in the empowering Holy Spirit, “his energy” that works in us. The marvelous power that worked in Paul is the same power that he works in and through us. We must resist the temptation and tendency to do everything in our power and with our own limited human abilities. We must trust in him, and our work must be strenuous, but simultaneously dependent upon his eternal, matchless, limitless power. __________________________________________________________________________________

28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

We can come to know Christ through confession of our sins and repentance (turning away from sin). Let me encourage you to do this by talking to God through prayer. Here is an idea of how you might do that:

"Dear God, I believe your son Jesus Christ died in my place on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day following his death. I confess my sins, all of them, to you now with a humble heart. I repent of those sins and ask you to empower me with your Holy Spirit in overcoming further sin. Amen”

If you prayed this or a similar prayer committing your life to Christ and becoming one of his followers, let me encourage you to find a good, Bible-believing church. If you live in the Weslaco/Rio Grand Valley area of Texas, let me invite you to the church I attend, Mid-Valley Assembly (www.midvalleyassembly.com).

Begin talking to God in prayer and reading the Bible daily. A good way to begin to read the Bible is to start with the Book of John in the New Testament.

Feel very free in connecting with me if you need any further help in your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. You can do this via the above email or facebook page or this web page.
