The Book of Proverbs fascinates me. It’s literary beauty and genius is often overlooked. One of the prime examples is Proverbs 8. Proverbs casts God’s wisdom in the powerful grammatical device of personification, presenting his wisdom as the first of his creation, a being standing alongside God, assisting and viewing with awe as God creates the physical universe. It is tempting to forget that this is not an actual being, but an attribute of God―his manifest wisdom.

In fact, as we aspire to gain God’s wisdom in our own lives through the reading and meditation upon this majestic proverb, we will have the same response―life-changing, transformative worship.

As one reads through the proverb―and I hope you will read the entire proverb, as I have printed my favorite portion here―they cannot help but get caught up in the divine drama of God as he creates everything, the world, the mountains, the oceans and humanity.

These are things that only he can do.

What a wonderful, powerful, awe-inspiring Creator-God we serve and worship! And when we strayed into the minefield of sin, he demonstrated his greatest act of loving wisdom to us. He gave his one and only Son in our place, redeeming us, in order for us to be able to engage him in a personal walk, a divine dance upon the this dance floor of creation!

Praise his name!

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; 23 I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. 24 When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water; 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, 26 before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth. 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. 30 Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.

We can come to know Christ through confession of our sins and repentance (turning away from sin). Let me encourage you to do this by talking to God through prayer. Here is an idea of how you might do that:

"Dear God, I believe your son Jesus Christ died in my place on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day following his death. I confess my sins, all of them, to you now with a humble heart. I repent of those sins and ask you to empower me with your Holy Spirit in overcoming further sin. Amen”

If you prayed this or a similar prayer committing your life to Christ and becoming one of his followers, let me encourage you to find a good, Bible-believing church.

Begin talking to God in prayer and reading the Bible daily. A good way to begin to read the Bible is to start with the Book of John in the New Testament.

Feel very free in connecting with me if you need any further help in your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. You can do this via the above email or Facebook page or this web page.
